Pool House

A family legacy of a lifestyle by the water brings the pool to the forefront of this urban family home. The endless movement of water bounces off the surrounding textures connecting the inside to out and past generations to future.

Preserving the character of the original Circa 1910 federation house, the new addition explores the play on duality.

Contrasting old to new, ornate to essential, open to private, inside to out and light to dark defining the evolution of the dwelling.

Form

The courtyard style addition pushes and pulls the horizontal glazed facades, inviting the pool into the internal and living space into the external.

Vertical screening and a wrap around balcony to the parent’s retreat above create a double height external void vertically connecting two levels around a central fireplace.

Function

Carefully working with the original, the house has evolved into a five bedroom, three bathroom, two living room dwelling with a pool, carport and a private wine cellar.

Boasting Harbour Bridge views from the front facade and a west facing rear yard, pivoting vertical screening and minimalist northern strip skylights were among the details utilised to control both light and heat within the home.
